Application Areas of Carbon-Carbon and Graphite Materials

Carbon-carbon (C/C) composites and carbon-graphite materials have become indispensable, cutting-edge materials in modern industry due to their extreme properties—such as high-temperature resistance (exceeding 2600°C), low weight combined with high strength, self-lubrication, electrical and thermal conductivity, and corrosion resistance. Their primary applications include:

1. Aerospace and Defense (Thermal Protection Systems): Thanks to their outstanding resistance to thermal shock and ablation, they are commonly used for rocket engine nozzles and throat inserts, as well as nose caps and wing leading edges on spacecraft. Aircraft Braking Systems: Carbon-carbon composites are the standard choice for brake discs in both commercial airliners and military fighter jets due to their high-temperature resistance and stable friction coefficients. Missile and Satellite Structures: They are widely used in warheads, launch vehicle fairings, and load-bearing structures for space stations, meeting rigorous demands for lightweight yet high-strength materials.

2. Semiconductor and Photovoltaic Manufacturing (High-Temperature Thermal Field Components): In monocrystalline silicon growth furnaces, these materials are fabricated into core components such as crucibles, flow guides, and heaters. High-Purity Process Consumables: Their excellent high-temperature resistance and purity control capabilities make them ideal support and thermal insulation materials for the semiconductor and photovoltaic industries.

3. Mechanical Engineering and High-End Equipment (Mechanical Seals): Leveraging their superior self-lubricating and wear-resistant properties, carbon-graphite materials are widely used for mechanical seal rings and bearings in water pumps, compressors, and reaction vessels. Vacuum Furnaces and Heat Treatment: Load-bearing trays and fixtures used in metallurgical and heat-treatment equipment rely on the material's ability to maintain its shape at high temperatures.

4. New Energy and Electronics/Electrical (Battery Anode Materials): High-end artificial graphite is an essential anode material for lithium-ion batteries. Electrodes and Brushes: Graphite electrodes—which play a critical role in electric arc furnace steelmaking—and motor brushes are both manufactured from carbon-graphite materials.

5. Chemical and Nuclear Industries (Corrosion-Resistant Equipment): Graphite heat exchangers and reaction towers are extensively used in the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries due to their resistance to acids and alkalis, as well as their high thermal conductivity. Nuclear Reactors: High-purity graphite is used as a neutron moderator and reflector material in nuclear reactors.
