The flexible graphite sealing ring is a ring-shaped sealing component made by molding flexible graphite strips or flexible graphite
woven fabric. It is suitable for media such as hot water, high-temperature and high-pressure steam, organic solvents, and low-
temperature liquids. The technical parameters are a pressure of ≤ 35 MPa and a temperature range of -200 to 550℃ (down to 2800℃ in
non-oxidizing atmosphere). Its application fields cover compressors, valves, petrochemical equipment, and nuclear reactor seals, and
it is widely used in industries such as petroleum, chemical engineering, chemical fibers, coal mining, power generation, metallurgy,
etc.
This product comes in various structural forms such as open rings, closed rings, and special-shaped rings. The cross-section can be
square, wedge-shaped, or V-shaped. The latter two are suitable for high-pressure areas and can provide straight or inclined cutting
forms. It is molded from pure graphite with a purity of > 98%, and can be lined with stainless steel foil/net for reinforcement or
designed with a metal cap to enhance the resistance to extrusion. There are also corrosion-resistant graphite packing rings that can be
used as sacrificial anodes to protect valve stems and packing. Carbon-graphite rings are specifically used for sealing at mechanical
rotating parts and have both wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant properties.
The product design of flexible graphite sealing rings mainly involves their manufacturing materials, forming processes, structural forms
and special designs.
Flexible graphite sealing rings are made by cutting high-purity (typically > 98%) flexible graphite strips or plates, and then formed in a
dedicated mold through winding compression or molding processes. No fillers or adhesives are added during this process .
The standard cross-section of the finished rings is square. To meet the sealing requirements of high-pressure areas, they can also be
designed and processed into wedge-shaped or V-shaped cross-sections.
The product structure types include pure graphite rings, reinforced molded packing rings, and corrosion-resistant graphite packing
rings. The reinforced molded packing rings are lined with stainless steel foil or metal meshes to enhance strength. Some products
adopt a design with a stainless steel cap to prevent oxidation. The corrosion-resistant graphite packing rings incorporate corrosion
inhibitors as sacrificial anodes to protect the valve stem and packing box.
The product design needs to meet a wide range of operating conditions. The typical design parameters include a maximum pressure of
up to 35 MPa (up to a higher pressure for the reinforced type), a temperature range of -200°C to 850°C (up to a higher temperature in
non-oxidizing media), a linear speed of up to 30 m/s, and the ability to withstand corrosive media with a pH value of 0-14.
Flexible graphite sealing rings are mainly used for dynamic and static sealing in equipment such as valves, pumps, compressors,
mixers, and blowers.
They are applicable in industries such as petroleum, chemical engineering, chemical fibers, coal mining, power generation, and
metallurgy.
The sealable media include hot water, high-temperature and high-pressure steam, heat exchange liquid, nitrogen, organic solvents,
hydrocarbons, cryogenic liquids, and corrosive chemical liquids such as strong acids and strong bases.
