The metal serrated gasket is a type of metal composite gasket. Typically, a precision lathe or specialized milling machine is used to machine both faces of a flat metal ring, creating a series of concentric, wave-like serrated grooves with a 90-degree included angle. Because the contact interface with the mating sealing surfaces consists of multiple concentric lines, the gasket effectively functions as a labyrinth seal.
Depending on the specific medium and operating conditions, a soft facing material-such as flexible graphite, PTFE, non-asbestos sheet, or a soft metal-can be bonded to both faces of the gasket. This design leverages the superior sealing properties of the soft facing layer in combination with the inherent strength and resilience of the metal core to achieve an enhanced sealing effect.
In most applications, we recommend graphite as the facing material. However, when the process medium reacts adversely with graphite, or when a clean operating environment is required, we suggest utilizing expanded PTFE-a recently introduced material with exceptional performance characteristics-as the facing layer. Generally, this configuration allows for effective sealing to be achieved without the need for excessive compressive load.

1. Petrochemical Industry
Used at flanged connections in reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers, high-pressure pipelines, and similar equipment to seal high-temperature oil and gas, corrosive chemicals, and high-pressure steam; serves as a replacement for traditional spiral-wound gaskets, thereby enhancing sealing reliability.
2. Power Generation and Nuclear Energy Sectors
Within power plant boiler systems, nuclear reactor auxiliary equipment, and steam generators, these components perform the critical task of sealing high-temperature, high-pressure steam, exhibiting excellent creep resistance and resilience.
3. Metallurgy and Shipbuilding
Applied in blast furnace gas pipelines, steelmaking equipment, and heat exchange units within marine propulsion systems; capable of withstanding severe temperature fluctuations and mechanical vibrations, thereby ensuring leak-free operation over the long term
